Vikings Team Plane Forced to Return After Mechanical Issue During Travel to Giants Game
The Minnesota Vikings' team charter plane was forced to return to Minneapolis shortly after takeoff due to mechanical issues while en route to New Jersey for their game against the New York Giants. Following the turn-around, the team boarded a second aircraft to continue their travel and were expected to arrive at Newark Liberty International Airport later that night.
The Vikings, who have been eliminated from playoff contention, entered the week following a Week 14 win over the Dallas Cowboys where quarterback J.J. McCarthy threw for 250 yards and two touchdowns along with one interception. The Giants came into the matchup holding a 2-12 record, tied for the NFL's worst alongside the Tennessee Titans and Las Vegas Raiders.
The Vikings released a statement confirming the mechanical issue with their original aircraft and the subsequent switch to a second plane as they proceeded with plans to reach Newark. Vikings cornerback Isaiah Rodgers shared on Instagram that the team was "ok" after the incident.
