Visual Breakdown of the World's Wealthiest People Highlights Extreme Global Inequality
About 56,000 people make up the 0.001% richest individuals globally. This tiny group owns three times as much wealth as the poorest half of humanity combined. The average wealth of a person in this 0.001% is close to €1 billion.
The top 10% of wealth holders own 75% of global wealth, illustrating a deep concentration of financial resources. The wealth of the 0.001% grows at around 5% per year, which is significantly faster than the overall economic growth of 3.4%.
To visualize this inequality, if all members of the 0.001% gathered together, they could fit into the seats of a medium-sized football stadium, such as Emirates Stadium or Stadio Olimpico. In stark contrast, the bottom half of the global population, approximately 2.8 billion people, would require about 50,000 such stadiums to seat them all and collectively own only about a third of the wealth held by the 0.001%.
This report aims to visually and quantitatively illustrate the magnitude of global inequality and the extreme concentration of wealth at the very top.
