Vodafone to meet MPs over franchisee dispute amid allegations and calls for accountability
Vodafone is scheduled to meet Members of Parliament on 21 January to discuss the ongoing franchisee dispute, with businessman Richard Tice among those attending.
Around 62 Vodafone retail franchisees have filed a High Court claim, alleging that Vodafone unjustly enriched itself by cutting 2020 sales commissions. The issue has garnered significant attention, with some franchisees reportedly having committed or attempted suicide, according to The Guardian.
MPs have been pursuing this meeting as ministers indicate a potential review of the legal framework governing franchise agreements in Britain. Vodafone began proposing financial settlements to some former franchisees in September 2025; however, a significant payment offer was reportedly rejected by the claimant funding group. Vodafone stated that their offer would have cleared debts for the claimants.
Vodafone expressed regret over any difficulties experienced by franchisees and emphasized that it continues to operate a successful UK franchise network, with many franchisees seeking to open more stores. Richard Tice has described Vodafone’s conduct as reminiscent of the Post Office Horizon scandal and called for accountability and transparent engagement with Parliament.
