Warne: Treasures of a Legend Exhibition Opens at Melbourne Cricket Ground
The Australian Sports Museum inside the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is currently hosting an exhibition titled "Warne: Treasures of a Legend." The collection was curated by Shane Warne alongside his then-wife Simone, who catalogued various cricket balls, stumps, and gear after tours, organizing the collection as a living archive.
Family involvement remains significant, with Warne’s children providing voiceovers for visitors experiencing the exhibition. Notable artifacts on display include the iconic ball of the century, Warne’s final Test shirt, the 1997 Trent Bridge balcony stump, the 1999 ODI helmet worn during the Bay 13 incident, Warne’s white floppy sun hat, and bowling boots featuring a hole cut out of the big toe.
Security measures are in place around the ball of the century, and one cap exhibited is marked as on loan from Cricket Australia. The MCG is described as the intended permanent home for Warne’s memorabilia, emphasizing his personal story and enduring legacy. Visitors from England, among others, have been captivated by the exhibition.
