Which? has found that festive chocolate prices have increased by up to 70% year on year, with an overall 14% rise across the chocolate category.

Among notable increases, Lindt Lindor milk chocolate truffles at Asda rose 72% to £1.98, while Lindt Milk Chocolate Teddy Christmas tree decorations at Morrisons increased 71% to £6. Other large percentage rises were seen in Terry’s Chocolate Orange dark ball, Galaxy milk chocolate sharing block, and Kinder milk chocolate multipacks.

Turkey prices have also increased significantly, up to £15 compared to 2024. For example, Tesco Finest free range medium bronze turkey crown rose 27.8% by £14.95 to £68.77. Overall, year-on-year inflation across all turkey types averaged 4.7%, driven by factors including bird flu and higher costs for farmers.

Poor cocoa harvests caused by extreme temperatures and heavy rainfall have contributed to rising chocolate costs.

Among UK supermarket chains, Waitrose prices increased by 6.2% year on year, while Asda saw a 3% rise. Notably, Waitrose will not sell whole frozen turkeys this year, following the example set by M&S last year.

Sainsbury’s is offering price-matched mince pies starting at £1.25, along with vegetable trimmings priced at 15p through Nectar promotions.

Which? analysed a range of ingredients for a typical Christmas dinner and festive treats, which included mince pies, sparkling wine, and chocolates.

Retail editor Reena Sewraz noted that overall inflation figures fail to capture the extent of price changes at the item level, with some items experiencing increases exceeding 70% year on year.
