A roof collapse occurred at the Curragh coal mine in central Queensland around 3pm on Friday, resulting in one worker missing and another hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Emergency crews are currently on site.

Two workers were safely recovered after the collapse, but one worker remains trapped and could be as deep as 1km underground.

Queensland's acting natural resources and mines minister, Tony Perrett, stated that rescue crews remain on site and are doing everything possible to assist.

The Curragh coal mine, located north of Blackwater roughly 200km west of Rockhampton, spans about 256 square kilometres across two mines and has been in operation since 1983.

Rescue operations were scheduled to continue on Saturday, with police confirming the status on Saturday morning.
