XRP and Solana Exhibit Twice the Volatility of Bitcoin in 2025
In 2025, Solana (SOL) and XRP experienced significantly higher volatility compared to Bitcoin (BTC), with realized volatility rates of 87% for Solana, 80% for XRP, and 43% for Bitcoin. This indicates that both XRP and SOL were about twice as volatile as Bitcoin, reflecting increased risk associated with these altcoins during the year.
Price levels in 2025 stood at $1.8903 for XRP, $128.27 for Solana, and $89,376.48 for Bitcoin. Additionally, Bitcoin's volatility decreased throughout the year, attributed to institutional demand for ETFs.
Institutional interest was notable in the altcoin ETF space as well, with XRP ETFs attracting over $1 billion since their debut in November and Solana ETFs garnering about $763.91 million. Bitcoin spot ETFs recorded significant inflows amounting to $56.96 billion since January 2024, while Ether ETFs accumulated around $12.4 billion since mid-2024.
Among the top five non-stablecoin tokens by market value, Solana was the most volatile. Volatility data for Binance Coin (BNB) and Ether (ETH) were 55% and 77% respectively. Furthermore, CME futures and US-listed spot ETFs serve as proxies for institutional activity for all four of the largest non-stablecoin coins except BNB.
