XRP and Solana Experience Twice the 2025 Volatility of Bitcoin
In 2025, XRP and Solana displayed volatility levels twice as high as Bitcoin, according to CoinDesk Indices data. The realized 365-day volatility was 87% for Solana, 80% for XRP, and 43% for Bitcoin. Among the top five coins by market value, excluding stablecoins, Solana was the most volatile.
At year-end prices, XRP traded at $2.0866, Solana at $134.45, and Bitcoin at $91,382.75. Other notable prices included BNB at $884.64 and Ether at $3,138.64. All top-four non-stablecoins, except BNB, had CME futures and U.S.-listed spot ETFs serving as proxies for institutional activity.
Demand for Bitcoin institutional ETFs led to a decline in Bitcoin volatility throughout 2025. Bitcoin spot ETFs saw net inflows of $56.96 billion since January 2024, while Ether ETFs accumulated $12.4 billion since mid-2024. XRP ETFs recorded inflows exceeding $1 billion since their November debut, with Solana ETFs gathering $763.91 million.
Altcoin ETFs like those for XRP and Solana require deeper liquidity to match Bitcoin's volatility levels, as reflected in the inflow figures and price dynamics during the year.
