YouTube Now Enables U.S. Content Creators to Receive Payments in PayPal's Stablecoin PYUSD
YouTube has introduced a new payment option allowing U.S. content creators to receive their earnings in PYUSD, PayPal's dollar-pegged stablecoin. PYUSD, issued by Paxos, was launched in August 2023 and has since grown to become the sixth-largest stablecoin with a market capitalization of around $3.9 billion.
PayPal introduced PYUSD payouts for payment recipients in the third quarter of 2025, with YouTube extending this feature specifically to its U.S.-based creators. According to May Zabaneh, head of crypto at PayPal, YouTube's approach avoids direct involvement with cryptocurrencies, which reduces complexity for creators receiving payments. This move marks a significant high-profile use case for PYUSD in creator monetization and other consumer income streams.
This development aligns with a broader trend where major platforms such as Apple, Airbnb, and X are exploring stablecoins as payout methods to circumvent the need to directly handle digital assets. PYUSD also benefits from support on Visa’s stablecoin settlement platform and Circle’s EURC, enhancing its utility and integration within the digital payments ecosystem.
