YouTube US Creators Can Now Receive Earnings in PayPal's PYUSD Stablecoin
YouTube US creators now have the option to receive their earnings in PayPal's PYUSD stablecoin, confirming the arrangement is live for American users according to PayPal crypto head May Zabaneh. This new payout option follows PayPal enabling PYUSD payouts via checks in Q3, after which YouTube extended the option to its creator community.
PYUSD was launched in August 2023 and currently has a market capitalization reported to be over $3 billion. In February, PayPal announced plans to integrate PYUSD into its bill-pay product for merchants and its Hyperwallet mass-pay platform. By September, PYUSD had expanded to nine additional blockchains via LayerZero, including Aptos, Avalanche, and Tron.
The broader market context highlights that the stablecoin sector is expected to struggle to surpass $360 billion before February, with the overall stablecoin capitalization currently around $313 billion. The GENIUS Act, signed by President Trump in July, provides a federal framework for stablecoins and is cited as a catalyst for institutional adoption.
Industry analysis suggests Big Tech companies adopt new payment rails when they are operationally mature and low-friction, allowing on-chain settlement and related efficiencies.
