Zelensky Denies Ukrainian Drone Attack Amid Ongoing Peace Talks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has denied claims that Ukraine launched a 91-drone attack on Russian President Vladimir Putin's residence in the Novgorod region of Russia. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the drones were intercepted and no casualties were reported.
Zelensky dismissed the drone attack claim as typical Russian misinformation intended to derail ongoing peace negotiations, highlighting that Russia itself has previously targeted government buildings in Kyiv. Lavrov stated that Russia plans to revise its negotiating position but does not intend to exit talks with the United States.
The drone attack claim surfaced soon after US-Ukraine talks held in Florida, where a revised peace plan was discussed. The US reportedly offered 15-year security guarantees to Ukraine, with former President Donald Trump stating an agreement on this point is nearly 95% complete.
Currently, Moscow controls about 75% of Donetsk and 99% of Luhansk within the Donbas region. Key unresolved issues include the status of Donbas and the situation around the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant.
Following the talks, the White House confirmed that Trump had a positive phone call with Putin. Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said Putin acknowledged the drone incident occurred after the talks and vowed a strong response. The White House did not offer comment on the attack claim.
