Zelenskyy Plans Meeting with Trump Before New Year to Discuss Ukraine Security
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced plans to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump at the highest level soon, with the meeting likely scheduled for Sunday before the New Year. The discussions are expected to focus primarily on security guarantees for Ukraine, although it remains unclear if territorial issues will be addressed.
Rustem Umerov confirmed ongoing contact with U.S. officials and emphasized that no time is being lost in arranging the talks. This planned meeting could indicate progress toward a peace settlement, as Trump had previously stated he would not meet with Zelenskyy or Russian President Vladimir Putin until a peace deal was finalized or near completion.
In related diplomatic efforts, Zelenskyy reported a substantive and positive conversation with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, including coordination for upcoming meetings in Florida. He stressed the importance of promptly preparing the necessary documents to support peace initiatives.
Furthermore, Zelenskyy noted that talks with U.S. officials resulted in a condensed 20-point peace framework, streamlined from the original 28-point plan initially proposed by Trump.
