Zelenskyy Reports Progress in Peace Talks with U.S. Amid Ongoing Russia-Ukraine Conflict
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed he had a very good Christmas discussion with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner focused on ending the war and establishing durable peace.
The draft peace framework, which initially contained 28 points, has been streamlined to 20 points. It now encompasses security guarantees involving Ukraine, European allies, and the United States, as well as an outline for post-war recovery efforts.
Additionally, there is a separate document concerning bilateral security guarantees with the United States that would likely require review by the U.S. Congress.
Zelenskyy noted that discussions have taken place in Miami in recent weeks and emphasized the continuous, around-the-clock work toward ending the war.
Despite progress, some differences remain between Ukraine and Russia, with each side maintaining positions they are not prepared to accept as U.S.-Russia talks continue.
Russian officials, including Maria Zakharova, acknowledged that negotiations with Washington are progressing gradually but face attempts to derail them. President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia’s goals remain unchanged and can be achieved through diplomacy or, if that fails, military action.
